Project 1 Studerendes Frivillige Netværk
As a volunteer you will be based at VIA University College, Aarhus C, which is a Campus with a little more than 6000 students and 10 different kind of programs.
You can read about VIA, University College: http://en.via.dk/
We are looking for a creative soul and a person with a working-spirit who would like to be part of a recently started project, where the volunteer can put his or her impression.
What is SFN?
SFN, Studerendes Frivillige Netværk (Students Voluntary Network) is a recently started project at VIA University College.
VIA University College, is an institution of higher education, which offers a wide range of international educational programs, qualifying the students for jobs in both the private and the public sector.
As Denmark's largest university college with more than 18.000 students, we help develop the future of public and private professions and aim to be among the best educational institutions in the world.
VIA is centered on eight campuses in Denmark.
SFN’s main objective is to help students find a voluntary work within and outside the community, so that the students can get a better network and the organizations around can flourish with new energy. Our philosophy is that voluntary work gives the students an opportunity to use his or her knowledge in a context that matters for others who need help and in addition to that gain valuable experience. In cooperation with VIA University College, we have created a voluntary-fair for the students and created a workshop, with the purpose to help the organizations recruit students.
SFN will give the volunteer an opportunity to learn about Denmark and Danish culture and will be in based in the heart of one of the biggest Danish education centers.
SFN has an office from where the volunteer will work in cooperation with two other students from the Campus. The tasks will be to plan, organize and execute events and workshops, which purpose it is to create awareness around voluntary work. The events could be a happening, a fair or a campaign. The idea of the workshops is to include the students in working with dilemmas and other issues surrounding voluntary work, so that we can create more commitment. We have two major start-ups with new students in February and in August, so the volunteer will also be in charge of planning how to get them to sign up for voluntary work.
Our ambitions are that in time, the volunteer will plan, organize and execute events and workshops all by him or herself, but in the beginning, we will guide and help him/her through the tasks. Within this framework, we think that, his/her personal creativity will help us create some unique and appealing events and workshops for the students at VIA.
Aarhus is appointed the European Capital of Culture 2017 and European Volunteering Capital 2018. It means that we will cooperate with the community around VIA University College and therefore he/she will be able to work for SFN around Aarhus.
Throughout the time with us, we will provide personnel supervision minimum once a week, so that we can help and guide the volunteer in the work. The supervision is intended as a kick-starter for the work of the volunteer, and the volunteer can always ask for help and guidance during his/her stay with us.

The town also has many sports facilities (such as facilities for handball, football, badminton, tennis, and golf as well as a aquatic center and a fitness center.

The EVS volunteer will stay with a local Danish host family and will be expected to become part of the family and as such take part in the activities and responsibilities in the family.
We believe that the volunteer position at our institution offers the volunteer the opportunity to learn about Danish kindergartens and the philosophy on which their activities are based. The volunteer will also study the new trend towards focusing on physical activities as a means to children development. Being based in a small town, the placement also offers the volunteer the possibility of learning about life conditions in countryside Denmark. The volunteer is very welcome to make his/her own activities with the children, and we will do our best to help and support the volunteer so that the EVS-stay with us will meet his/her expectations. Examples of activities in the kindergarten: • Carrying out a wide range of outdoor natur/physical activities • Spending time in nature, go on walks and doing other activities related to nature • Doing indoor activities when weather requires it
The entire recruitment and selection process will be done in close cooperation with AFS Interkultur as the coordinating organisation. Project 2 Nicolai
Nicolai Kultur is a unique cultural complex in the heart of Kolding city. It is situated in a 19th Century latin school complex and renovated by acclaimed architect Dorte Mandrup.
It consists of 6000 square meters surrounding the old school courtyard.
As a cultural complex, Nicolai functions as an incubator for cultural production in the city.
We facilitate the creation of new cultural practices, as well as taking a central role in Kolding’s self-image as a city of design and culture.
Nicolai is a comparatively small organization with 8 permanent employed people and 15-20 part time employees.
The complex is striving towards:
• Encouraging attendance of cultural activities ( we want to stimulate people to come to cultural events)
• Engaging citizens in actual decision-making (we want citizens to take ownership of activities happening in Nicolai)
• Material co-creation (we want to make events together with citizens)
• Creating communicative publics (we want people to meet and talk)
• Individual/social empowerment (we want people to engage)
• Social inclusion (we want to include people and create the sense of being part of a community)
Our activities covers a wide range of cultural and artistic expressions, within all age groups.
6 buildings create the indoor possibilities of the complex.
1. The Cinema (Nicolai Bio is an art cinema, also housing a small café).
2. The Archive (Stadsarkivet is the local archive, preserving local knowledge and artefacts).
3. The Children’s Cultural House (Nicolai for børn is a unique attraction for children and their families).
4. The Art Exhibition (Kunst & Design is an exhibition hall for professional arts and crafts).
5. The Stage (Nicolai Scene is an acoustic stage with primarily classical program).
6. The Young Entrepreneurs (Bygning 5 is facilitating events and activities with, by and for young people aged 15-35).
The courtyard is our 7th space, being used for outdoor activities, as well as a public recreational space for the citizens in Kolding.
About volunteering at Nicolai for Børn
When volunteering at Nicolai you will be working alongside cultural coordinators, artistic personnel, and cultural professionals of all kinds.
You will have the opportunity to develop and facilitate your own projects within Nicolai’s existing framework, working from a perspective of co-creation and design thinking.
Specifically we are looking for a volunteer to take on the task of creating cultural events in our beautiful courtyard, directed towards a younger demographic aged 15-35. With Kolding being an international student city, we are looking to attract students from abroad as well as locals to our events in Nicolai, and let our courtyard specifically, be the natural meeting point and melting pot for the wide range of young people in Kolding.
Nicolai is the place for meetings in open air
Its where your go for the unknown cultural experience
Where you can get a free concert with the stars of tomorrow
Where you can see an exhibition you didn’t know existed
Where you can encounter art and cultural productions, alone or with friends
Where local volunteers create cultural productions for the citizens of Kolding
You will be able to work alongside our cultural professionals in Nicolai Kultur as well as our friends from culture- and student organizations in the city.
As part of your introduction to the complex, we will also introduce you to some of the cultural organizers in the area, giving you a solid foundation for you to develop your own courtyard projects.
We are looking for a volunteer to join us in the period from February-July 2018. We imagine that projects in the courtyard will commence during the spring from around April or May, with the possibility of creating a largescale event before departure in July.
We are hoping for around 3-5 events planned during the volunteers stay.
The courtyard projects can take any shape or form, though the following guidelines should be taken into account:
– The events should relate to the demographic aged 15-35.
– The events are open air, and thus subject to changing weather conditions.
– The events should embrace co-creation and design thinking, with a primary focus on cultural and artistic expressions.
Together with applications for the volunteer position at Nicolai you can admit general ideas for your courtyard projects, though it is not mandatory.
As part of the project we will give a thorough introduction to the cultural life of the complex as well as Kolding as a whole, from which to start generating specific ideas for events.
Tell us about your work until know, your general ideas on culture and expressions through art, and what you believe makes a cultural event worth visiting.
We are looking for a volunteer that;
Brings a creative mindset
are able to work independently
have a mature understanding of work ethics
wants to create events and activities for the larger public
