September-2016 – August 2017
… a young person aged between 18-30…
… interested in the field of peacemaking and non-violence…
… into working with children, teenagers, and adults…
… full of energy, creativity and ideas and would like to find a way to develop them…
… looking for opportunities to meet and exchange ideas and practices with other young people or youth workers from different countries…
… interested in volunteering in Italy and getting to know Italian culture and language
There can be very busy periods in which working can be hard, followed by free periods in which there can be not so much to do for days
Single room in EVS volunteers’ apartment, but divided by a fake wall, so privacy will not be as living in a real single room
According to the time needed to learn basic Italian, the first 2 or 3 months of activ ity will be dedicated to observation and discovery of the activities (and people involved, venues, etc) and city; in such period the volunteer can feel useless and not
DOING anything. This can be a critical time, but it’s the time needed for the volunteer to get all the knowledge and skills needed to get independent in the context.
All the activities in hosting organisation requires the knowledge of Italian language: in the first months the volunteer will have to put lot of effort in learning the language, and patience in accepting the time needed to get a basic level that allows understanding
The apartment is owned by one of the member of the association, that lives next door to the volunteers’ apartment. A respectful behaviour is expected from the vo lunteers; big parties must be agreed with the owner, as well as long hosting of frineds, etc…
The 2 EVS volunteers will share the flat; this means that they will share most of their working and free time.
The apartment for the volunteers is a small building which is lived in different apart ments by a same family; for this reason it’s really important to keep the street door closed, since the single apartments are not locked (included the volunteers’ one), since all the tenants are from the same family.
EVS in general, but in our association especially, requires the volunteers to develop their waiting, observing and patience skills.
EVS in Casa per la Pace is an experience that allows the volunteers to grow through the activities: the association is focusing on the long process of personal growth and confrontation more than in the activities themselves. This means that EVS in hosting organisation is not a practical project; it focus much more on the learning and growing process.
Great value is given to volunteers’ ideas, that can be developed and implemented by them together with Casa per la Pace help and support.
Free time during periods of scarce activity.
Total support from the members of the organisation for working and personal is ssues
Total involvement of the volunteer in the organisation and in the group of members.
Independent apartment in the city centre.
Easy to reach apartment and office (with public transportation).
Many and different activities that can help developing different skills.
Both team and individual work.
Friendly atmosphere in the organisation (the organisation was created 15 years ago by friends that at the time were students; now they have different jobs but they continue to give their free time constantly to the organisation. A group of “new” members was created in the last 4 years, sohosting organisation’s members now in volve a group of 15 people from 25 to 50 years old).
Casa per la Pace gives great space to the volunteers to create their own projects
Great training opportunity regarding all the topics ofhosting organisation’s activities and goals: non-violence, discrimination, prejudices, group dynamics, non-violent management of conflicts, shared leadership, facilitating, empowerment, … .
Great willingness from Casa per la Pace’s members to meet the volunteers’ needs.
After arrival, hosting organisation will realize a meeting to share with volunteers fear and expectations regarding the project; it will also give a panoramic view of the year plan of activities and will agree together with the volunteer which activities he/she will take part in. There will be for the volunteers freedom of expressing their preference, and there will be great willingness from hosting organisation’s members to meet the volunteers’ preferences.
Once the volunteer has been selected, Casa per la Pace will send him/her a list of Italian words related to the topics and the activities of the association. The volunteer is required to learn those words before arriving, in order to be able to understand the context even in the first weeks of language black out.
Once the volunteer has been selected, Casa per la Pace will require to his/her sending organisation to use part of their sending costs to buy to the volunteer a dictionary of Italian – volunteer’s mother tongue, and an Italian grammar in the volunteer
hosting organisation’s expectations on the volunteers:
be open to challenge yourself and to new opinions,
be open to share your cultural background, life experience, and opinions,
interest in learning together with Casa per la Pace about non-violence, non-violent
give feedbacks to the organisation,
be clear on your own motivation and personal goals during the EVS year in hosting organisation
live this EVS year as a growing opportunity on several aspects: professional, per sonal, human, relational; helping defining priorities or goals in your life.
