Voluntariado sobre comunicación en Eslovaquia

As most of the project activities take place in the region of Rimavská Sobota, where a significant part of the local community in addition to the majority of the nation are also members of the Hungarian and Roma community, by implementing activities we contribute to the priority of preserving cultural diversity. The city is in South Slovakia, 30km away from Hungarian border. The region struggling many years with the highest rate of unemployment in the country (around 30%), and faces with serious economic and social challenges. These bad social and economic conditions cause strong migration of young people to the West. Our organisation decided to give local young people positive examples and opportunity to meet other young people from Europe. These circumstances made a need for postive examples, sharing best practice and innovative methods in regional development. The information has the biggest value for socially excluded people, that’s why we decided to start a regional news portal, which is after four years of its existence one of the primar source of information for local minorities. We inform about local politics, social and cultural events, free workplaces and job opportunities, best practice of local enterpreneurs and young talents, environs and give an opportunity for local people to write articles and share ideas. The news portal and our organisation is in a lack of capacity, and we have a lot of activities which for voluntary work will be helpful and can bring added value to them.
By involving volunteers to the operation of the news portal we would like to give it an Europe-wide context and give opportunity to local people meet and share ideas with young people from abroad. Also we would like to give an opportunity to volunteers to learn practical things about media: preparing of contect, ICT in online media, online marketing, fundraising of a local initiative, communication with readers/clients, research of needs of local people youths included. By hosting volunteers we would like to promote the EVS and help as many local youngsters as we can to participate in EVS to get skills and expertise which can help them be successful in local or European labour market.
Objectives of project are: to increase the amount of information provided via news website, increase the amount of local young people involved into our youth and regional development project, strenghten local youth initiatives, show a postivive example for other NGOs in hosting volunteers from abroad, increase the number of local volunteers and organisations who will participate in EVS and Erasmus+ programme.
