Projects and duration

Hosting organisation is accredited as a coordinating and sending organisation within the EVS-program, for hosting volunteers we are cooperating with several organisations of the german social and health care system.

In February 2016 we want to submit applications for the following projects:

State School for the Hard of Hearing Stegen
Project start September 2016, duration 11 months

Residential Home for the Elderly St. Raphael Neustadt
Project start September 2016, duration 12 months

Residential Home for the Elderly «Emmaus» Haiterbach
Project start September 2016, duration 12 months

Integrational workshop for the Disabled IWO – Work and Employment,
Project start September 2016, duration 12 months

Integrational workshop for the Disabled – Support and Assistance
Project start September 2016, duration 12 months

Some important aspects:

1) We don’t accept more than one volunteer from the same country/language in one and the same project.

2) We try to have a good mixture of nationalities in our projects

3) Since most of our hosting projects are working in the social field we are looking for volunteers who are interested in this field, having previous experiences or qualifications, maybe planning a professional
career in social services etc.

4) Candidates who are applying for projects with mentally or physically disabled people should get through an internship in a similar institution in their home country before

5) In general basic skills in german language are helpful for all candidates.

6) At the center of our EVS projects are the volunteering activities in the host organisations, not the leisure time activities of volunteers outside of the project, so volunteers should have the ability to organise their leisure time on their own.

7) We are expecting a full time volunteering service of 38 hours per week.

8) EVS is not a language course, therefore candidates who are at first and mainly interested in language learning should not apply for our projects.

9) Some of our projects are located in small cities or villages with less than 4.000 inhabitants. Before applying for these projects candidates should think about daily life in such small communities.

10) We prefer volunteers for long-term projects between 9 to 12 months.

Volunteer profile

Furthermore we want to point out that we prefer candidates who are already qualified in the field of nursing or social work.
During the last years several of our volunteers got job offers or opportunities for vocational training especially in Residential Homes for the Elderly, in organisations for disabled people or in child care where we have a lack of qualified workers.

We’ll help already qualified volunteers to get the recognition of their exams in Germany so they can look for a job after their EVS.

For the selection of the volunteers we will need:

– Europass CV with picture (made in the last month) and skype name

– Motivational letter, writing that your sending organisation will be “Building Bridges”. We ask all candidates to send a specific letter of motivation – why they want to volunteer with us rather than just a general EVS one. The volunteer is chosen according to his/her motivation and interest to the project and to the activities. It will be paid special attention to cover letters.

Remember to write in the motivation letter that your sending institution is “Asociación Building Bridges”.
