Lodz Art Center is a cultural, art and design centre located in a postindustrial building complex. LAC is an alternative, independent platform focused on contemporary arts and city promotion. Lodz Art Center takes part in organising cultural events such as Lodz Design Festival – International Festival of Design (www.lodzdesign.com), Lodz Biennale – Biennial of Art (www.lodzbiennale.com), Fotofestiwal – International Festival of Photography in Lodz (www.fotofestiwal.com). Besides the activities listed above, LAC hosts individual exhibitions, conferences and educational workshops. One of the most fundamental elements of the Center’s activity is cooperation with partnership cities, foreign galleries and individual curators.One of the main aims of LAC is promotion of Lodz as a city of culture and art. The Center prepared the city’s candidacy to become the European Capital of Culture since the beginning of 2007 (www.lodz2016.com). Other projects focused on the city promotion are for example ‘ArtBus’, ‘Faces of Berlin’ and ‘Lodz of Festivals’. The variety of organized activities appeals to wide audience from all over Europe.
Lodz Art Center is created by a group of young, dynamic cultural managers, promotional specialists and curators who strive to sustain the modern and cultural image of the city. The projects and events organized in Lodz Art Center are directed by young people, group of international professionals and art lovers (interested in photography, design, theatre) and city dwellers.
Lodz Art Center cooperates closely with three other organizations which are based in the same building – Foundation of Visual Education (FEW), Chorea Theatre Association and Fabryka Sztuki.
Tasks
Volunteers can work in one of two main domains of activities. Proposed tasks may vary depending on Volunteer’s preferences and on project which will be managed: 1) Events coordination: preparation, implementation, management of a project, logistics, evaluation. The Volunteer will be involved in organization of exhibitions, workshops, meetings, auctions, portfolio reviews, Grand Prix nomination, special events. He/She will contact artists, curators, partners, co-organizers, sponsors, events participants, will prepare timetables, guest-packs and info-kits, search for and book accommodation or transport for artists and guests, design and arrange space for events or exhibitions and support their preparation in-situ. 2) Promotion: marketing, social media, PR and Media Relations, graphic design. The Volunteer will run and update a Facebook and Twitter profile (in English and Polish if he/she can) as well as update websites, work on and send newsletters, create databases, make photo-reports and documentation of events, prepare presentations, organize and manage discussions or meetings during international events, prepare reports, contact our media partners, help in press office or reception during festivals, if he/she is able, the Volunteer can create his/her own projects, graphics, festival identification or websites, may propose PR strategies, promotional actions and implement them. The tasks will mainly be related with Lodz Design Festival (October), partly with Fotofestiwal (May-June) as well as with other projects in which the Center will be involved during the year. The Volunteers will be also welcome to: • support our partners with which the Center cooperates as an event co-organizer. • develop a bigger project with other EVS Volunteers from three partner institutions based in the same building. Our team will support them and make available all needed facilities. • invent and work on his personal project with the help of our staff. This project can be made visible and added to Center’s events calendar, if he/she agrees. • He/She will also get a chance to introduce his/her home country, habits and heritage, promoting European mobility values at the same time.
Criteria
We are looking for someone who wants to learn and make progress, has strong motivation, who is responsible, and creative, open-minded and optimistic with sense of humor. We are looking for someone who is able to work in a group as well as independently. People interested in design are welcome but it is not a necessity. We would be happy to work with anyone who cares about culture, art, design, photography, city promotion and society development.
Procedure
Please send your CV, motivation letter and short information about your sending organization (if you already have one). Another and additional way of self-presentation (like video recording, short portfolio) will be a big plus and very welcome but it is not a necessity. We will focus on the candidates interest in project, his/her motivation and aims. Please note that after the selection of the volunteers we will still have to wait for the project approval from the European Commission.
