Youthcenter Corner (September 2017 – June 2018)
- The organisation:
The youth and culture centre «CORNER» in the city district of Itzling has been founded in 1998 with the support of the city council of Salzburg. Together with the local young people the centre has been designed, created and partly adapted. In the year 1999, our youth centre has been inaugurated and since then we are trying to offer our youth an interesting programme and cultural events. The centre considers itself a meeting place and shelter for 13 to 19 year old youngsters. The young people coming to our centre are mainly from the city district Itzling in Salzburg. Our target group is a as much as possible balanced and diverse young public as to concerning gender, ethnical and social background. Activities carried out by the youth centre: Internetcafé, open running: music, games, discussions, chats…, DJ parties, specific projects, youth exchanges, theatre, own radio emission a.s.o. - Your tasks:
The volunteer will be a support for our team. You will take part in team meetings, help with administraion and project related work but most of all you will spend time with our youngsters and join/prepare/implement activities with and for them. - What you should bring in:
We welcome the volunteer bringing in his/her own ideas for projects or activities which can be developed during the «general youth centre times». Basic knowledge of German or English and of computing would be useful. Flexibility and motivation to work with young people would be great.
– Youthcenter Oberndorf (September 2017 – June 2018)
- The organisation:
The youth centre Oberndorf has been founded in 1999 as an open meeting point for the local youth groups. The centre is the main meeting point in Oberndorf for the youth scene between 12 and 18 years. The average number of visitors is about 70 per opening. The young people coming to our centre are mainly from Oberndorf or neighbourhood. Target groups are beside the local youth scene especially disadvantaged and underprivileged youngsters as migrants, unemployed, and socially discriminated youngsters etc.
With a mix of activities and regular opening hours, the youth center tries to support participation within the community of Oberndorf, to improve the integration status and to give shelter and backup when necessary. Further it wants to support useful leasure time activities. - Your tasks:
We aim, that the EVS year will bring enrichment for the volunteer and will bring personal and work experiences that are important for the rest of her or his life. The tasks we can offer cover a wide spectrum, especially through the cooperation in the local community. We will ask the volunteer to tell his/her expectations and goals at the beginning of the EVS project so that the team can help and support him/her. - What you should bring in:
We are willing to host volunteers from various disadvantaged backgrounds, if we know in advance to be able to support him/her. The volunteer should be able to work independently and to be motivated to show his/her own initiative. The volunteer has to be motivated to work with youth.
– Youth- and culture center – mark.freizeit.kultur (September 2017 – February 2018)
The organisation:
- MARK started its work as a youth center more than 40 years ago. Today MARK is much more than a youth center! At Mark you can find concerts and art exhibitions, a silkscreen printing workshop, a bike workshop, an open wardrobe where everybody can bring and take free cloths, vegan meals and much more. MARK is also publishing an own magazine and a radio show.

You support the team of MARK at their various tasks. You help organizing different events, take care of the guests (mainly youngsters and young adults up to 30 years), do some organizational tasks and some office work. Still there are so many other different things you can do at MARK! It depends more or less on your own interests. Do you like media? Then you can for example update MARK’s instagram account or get involved in the MARK radio show. Do you like cooking or do you prefer repairing bikes? Do you like art or music? There are a lot of possibilities how you can get involved. - What you should bring in:
If you are openminded, motivated to bring yourself in and motivated to learn, then you are the perfect candidate!
As many youth and culture centers MARK’s opening hours are mainly from Tuesday to Saturday in the late afternoon and in the evening. Therefor we are searching for somebody for whom it is okay to work during the evening and also on Saturdays.
– Free community radio – Radiofabrik (July 2017 – June 2018)

- The organisation:
Radiofabrik is Salzburg’s Community Radio – that means independent, non-commercial, non-profit orientated and with free and public access for everyone to the opportunity of broadcasting. It is the radio with the most freedom of speech and variety of opinions in Salzburg. It offers a platform to different people, especially to those who don’t have a voice in other media because of social, racist, sexist or other kind of discrimination. Our aim is to encourage civil society, the communication between cultures and generations and the equality of the sexes.
In our programme everyone can take part in, so we make a contribution to the freedom of speech in Salzburg. Everyone can represent his/her opinion and turn his/her ideas into reality. - Your tasks:
The volunteer can learn a lot about radio journalism, moderation and radio techniques. She/he will be a part of the team, especially of the editorial staff. After the time working here she/he will be able to make an own radio program and get an insight in and an overview over the work of an (non commercial) radio station (and also of an institution, that carries out many projects). - What you should bring in:
The volunteer should have technical interest and interest in radio. She/he should be motivated for creating own inputs for the radio, work independently and be creative. The technical knowledge that is necessary for broadcasting is imparted in workshops. Radiofabrik is very open to host volunteers who do not have any experience in media yet! You will have the possibility to learn everything from the beginning!
How to apply
Building Bridges users and/or long term unemployed (proved by scanned document) will have preference to this volunteer service.
We will study carefully all application and selected candidates will be invite for Skype interview. The selection of volunteers will take place in the coming weeks.
For the selection of the volunteers we will need:
– Europass CV with picture (made in the last month) with skype name included
– Motivational letter, writing that your sending organisation will be “Building Bridges”. We ask all candidates to send a specific letter of motivation – why they want to volunteer with us rather than just a general EVS one. The volunteer is chosen according to his/her motivation and interest to the project and to the activities. It will be paid special attention to cover letters.
