Description
Caritas is looking for a EVS volunteers for its project for asylum seekers and refugees and its daycare center for mothers in disadvantaged situation “Rojdestvo Hristovo”. The volunteer is supposed to start their service at the beginning of February 2016 and stay for 10 months.
Most of the time (not less than 70-80%) the volunteer will spend working on the refugee project we have in Sofia. There are 3 centers for asylum seekers and refugee where we provide educational activities, organized by around 60 volunteers living here. The EVS volunteer will help with the coordination of the volunteers in the project, the activities at the centers, the trainings of the volunteers and also publishing information about the project. The creation of the website and the facebook page of the project was initiated by our previous EVS volunteer – http://refugeeproject.eu/.
The other part of the project for single mothers will take place at their center. It was established some 12 years ago in order to financially and morally support women at risk. The priority group are women who raise their children on their own and the assistance provided to them is aimed at preventing the abandonment of their children in institutions.
The goal of the center is to empower women to cope on their own. It offers personalized social programs that deal with the specific problems of each individual. There are craft workshops where the women can work according to their interests. The workshops function as both work therapy and a source of some, albeit modest, additional income.
Tasks
Tasks: The volunteers will work closely with the staff and the other volunteers at the centers. The staff is open to new suggestions and activities if the volunteers want to organize such. Besides the work with the asylum seekers, refugees and single mothers the volunteer can work also with other people for which Caritas Sofia has activities (children with disabilities, roma children, drug users). Thus, the volunteer will be able to help more people and see social work from different angles. – Promotional activities. The volunteers can be involved or organize different promotional activities about the project and EVS, organize an info-session about their country (about experiences, folklore & culinary specialties).
Criteria
The staff of Caritas Sofia is very dedicated, friendly and hard-working. They care very very much about the projects and communities and they want to host a volunteer who is responsible, punctual, and has the need to help people in vulnerable situations. We are looking for someone motivated and caring in order to create a positive, satisfactory, and mutually-beneficial relationship. The volunteer needs to know English at an intermediate/advanced level in order to be able to communicate with the staff at Caritas Sofia. Previous voluntary experience and curiosity towards new places and cultures are a plus. The volunteers will be able to socialize with Caritas volunteers.
Selection process
We will study carefully all application and selected candidates will be invite for Skype interview.
For the selection of the volunteers we will need:
– Europass CV with picture (made in the last month)
– Motivational letter, writing that your sending organisation will be “Building Bridges”. We ask all candidates to send a specific letter of motivation – why they want to volunteer with us rather than just a general EVS one.
Remember to write in the motivation letter that your sending institution is “Asociación Building Bridges”.
