Fuera Frontera is a mobility, voluntary project funded by the Erasmus Plus program aimed at integrating refugees and asylum seekers into the local community through non- formal learning, art and the acquisition of cross skills.

The project will take place in a large building with an open-air space that currently hosts twenty migrants from six different African countries. The building includes, in addition to their apartments, a workshop for bicycle repair, a classroom for Italian language lessons and a warehouse for carpentry and theatrical activity.

Being in the countryside and in the plains, outside there are outdoor spaces for sports and other activities, but above all we are developing agricultural land.

The volunteer will interact in this space with the migrants and with the operators of the host organization and will learn about the actual refugee-hosting techniques, the procedures, the relational dynamics and management of the apartments and common areas.

He/She will also develope an important intercultural knowledge, earning considerable transversal skills such as problem solving, teamwork, and the ability to understand each other.

He will also participate actively in the organization of events that will be open to the local population: shows or small markets, in which the migrants themselves will be involved.
The staff of the cooperative will always be available to support the volunteers at all times.

What you should know first of all Working with migrants is stimulating but tough and requires strong motivation.

The personal situations of migrants are various and often difficult, on a integrational level (cultural and linguistic barriers) but also due to their personal background (that often deals with poverty and violence).

Life in the camp often alternates between moments when activities overlap and dead times: a self-organization capacity is an essential prerogative.

You will find knowledge of new cultures, educational and motivational work, dynamism and self-determination, contacts with local political decision makers and citizenship, defense of rights and active participation to the formation of a new common sensibility.

Otros detalles prácticos

Volunteers will be engaged in Fuera Frontera’s activities from Monday to Friday, for 26 hours per week.

Weekends are normally free, even if it can happen to be involved in events during the evenings or in the weekend, always according to the abovementioned 26 h/week. The extra time of work will be converted into days off.

Volunteers will live in a fully equipped flat in the same place of the camp and will share a 2 beds’ room. They will have an Internet access and all facilities.

Our office is located at less than 15 minutes by car from the structure. It takes 10-15 minutes walking to go the nearest small town, San Romano, where you will find the nearest train station.

Free public transports can be used to go to Pisa or Florence (40km far from the camp).

We will provide volunteers with a regional transport card that will give them access to special prices on regional public transports. Each volunteers will also have his/her own bike.

The volunteer will get a monthly allowance for their food expense.

Volunteers will be welcomed and mentored throughout their project by their tutor and the employees of the association. The tutor will be responsible for the daily support of the volunteers, and will support them to get with the team. They will take part to meetings with full staff and the regional EVS correspondant. A Youthpass will be delivered.

The maximum amount of travel reimbursement is 275 €

An insurance is provided to cover any risk.

Each volunteer will benefit from the Online Linguistic Support Erasmus + (OLS) and the attendance at the italian classes.
