We would like to host two volunteers, from Spain and Portugal, who would work in our kindergarten from Windmill. They would assist full- time teachers working with children.

Project

kindergarten is located in the main building of the organization. It is attended by children of age between 2 and 4 years old, having as purpose their development through multicultural relations, art, music and other activities. The teacher is an experienced professional, she plans the lessons, organize excursions and trips to theatre, museums or walks in nature. Some of them speak English, but in our organization communication is not a problem, an alternative used way being non-verbal communication, until volunteers get used to basic words in Polish language.

Volunteer`s task

We would like to host volunteers who could assist and contribute to the personal development of children, help them grow in a safe and healthy environment. It is a great opportunity for children and for volunteers to learn about each other`s culture. Children could learn words from volunteers` language and extent their knowledge about their cultures, customs and traditions.

The volunteers will learn how to plan the working day, expand their creative skills, teach them songs, dances and games from their own countries, do presentations for kids and their parents, prepare workshops and cooperate with the teacher. It`s important to mention that we give full liberty to volunteers to express and implement their own ideas for the activities held in kindergarten.

Extra activities: Their task comprises also to raise awareness among the local community about a multicultural Europe, volunteering (specifically EVS) and integration by means of cultural presentations and in general promotion of their own countries during extra activities that the host organization will arrange – for instance presentations in schools, participation to festival and events, etc.

We focus on the volunteers’ social work for local community – children, youth and unemployed people. Being proactive and creative is important for us because, a part from the assigned tasks at the places of work, we’ll give also a chance to the volunteers to express their own ideas and interests and evolve their own projects according to different needs, possibilities and specific situations. We welcome all kinds of new ideas, especially the ones that promote EVS.

Organizational issues:

The volunteer will work 5 days a week (from Monday to Friday)and once a month, one day of the weekend, for which he/she will receive an additional day off.

Work will last no more than 7 hours per day. Generally, volunteers will have weekends free. They can spend it visiting the city, country, and taking part in the community.

During all public and religious holidays the volunteer is also free. In addition, each month he/she is entitled 2 days off, to any disposal. It can be spent on further travel and tour the country in which he/she’s hosted.

Breakfast and dinner are prepared by volunteers themselves by using the funds given at the beginning of each month by the coordinator. Volunteers can prepare lunch on their own or eat at the organization`s restaurant.

Volunteers live in a dormitory, located close to their place of work, in shared flats composed by toilet, bathroom, furnished kitchen, small lobby and bedrooms. Bedrooms may be single or to be shared by three people, with a balcony. In the dormitory they will have at their   disposal free laundry, a room to relax, with pool and free gym. Internet (wireless) and the local transport will be covered by the “Windmill” Foundation. Also, there will be weekly classes of Polish language by people experienced in teaching Polish language to foreigners – each time the date and hour are to be established between the volunteer and the teacher. In the event of cancellation of a lesson caused by the teacher, he/she is required to serve for the missing hours.

In addition to their free time, volunteers can choose one free course of several held in our organization, such as: zumba, fitness, step, fitball or guitar lessons.

Volunteer`s Profile:

Polish knowledge is not required. We are looking for open-minded persons, motivated and responsible, with a lot of energy and creativity. We expect him or her to be patient and kind, taking in consideration that will work with children. Positive attitude is welcome, as also taking the initiative. If there is some experience in taking care of children, there is an extra point for that. Children need support in going to toilet, eating and other issues that might occur so we are looking for people determined to assist them in this kind of tasks.
