INFO ABOUT THE HOSTING CITY

Alexandreia, previously called Gidas, was the «largest village» of Imathias local prefecture. It used to be the historical center of plain that was known since the Turkish domination of Roumlouki, the land of the Greeks; Alexandreia was consisted of 40 villages.  There are many interesting monuments, connecting the local history with Ancient Greece, Roman, Byzantine & Ottoman Empire; Alexandreia is located in the region of Central Macedonia and is a substantial part of the Macedonian history. The municipality of Alexandreia was formed at the 2011 after a local government reform  consited of 4 «municipal units»: Alexandreia, Antigonides, Meliki, Platy.

ACTIVITIES DETAILS

It is a common belief and contemporary strategy of behavioral change, to boost quality of life and sustainable environment campaigns through arts and culture. Hosting organisation is aiming to «quality of life» development by supporting EVS projects related to Arts and Humanities.

In our EVS project the volunteer shall
1) learn and support activities related to:
a) informing other people about our actions;
b) learning how to design brochures, posters and flyer and participate in dissemination activities;
c) learning how to update our English blog and forum and practice on that by developing and updating it;
d) getting in touch and being introduced with several artists and attend some seminars or lessons of his/her preference.
e) learn to use web2 teaching and learning tools;
f) participating to the preparation and implementation of our activities (as technical support  assistant in performances, welcoming the audience or the participants,  delivering brochures, assisting, attending or participating in artistic activities (dance, theater , pantomime, filming, photographing, painting, sculpturing)
– visit and be experienced of the daily work of a local newspaper, partiicipating to the departmentof European News. It is cooperating with the newspaper H ALEXANDREIA MOU.

2) visit other associations of Alexandreia region and be experienced of the daily work of local artistic houses as for instance, assisting in technical issues the new theater of Alexandreia’s Municipality.

3) each volunteer shall run a project related to arts and society, attributing to the promotion of local culture , customs and history, as for example
a)  photographing the city of Alexandreia and presenting an exhibition near the end of his EVS sojourn
b) preparing a theatrical performance with local and foreign youth concerning human rights and reffugees
c) composing music and writing lyrics for a performance
d) a video art project

4) Moreover, the volunteer will have the opportunity to
a) learn some basics about Arts by our teachers
b) participate ..!… in our annual activities
c) demonstrate his/her projects in local community
d) implicate local community to his/her project (empowering citizenship)

Generally, the hosted volunteer(s) shall have many opportunities to learn more about arts and a. culture, b. creativity, c. research & innovation, d. arts’ local and regional  history, e. arts & education, f. arts and career and g) visit the region of Alexandreia and Central Macedonia by one day trips and exhibitions (one trip per week)

ALL THOSE ACTIVITIES SHALL BE SUPERVISED AND MENTORED BY our members.

PROPOSED TIMETABLE OF ACTIVITITIES

Duration: 2 months

1st week: Welcoming party, introduction to the EVS Supervisor, Mentors and Youth Workers; roadmap and handbook of the city;  basic orientation skills for reaching the transport vehicles, rent a bike, find the health center, banks, super markets, bakeries, coffee bars, restaurants, shopping center and entertainment clubs in Alexandreia. Learning some basic words and sentences in Greek Language (support: Social Mentor)
2nd week: An intensive seminar with learning some basics concerning web2 tools, our blog & forum as to support  administration office. Entertainment by the support of the social mentor. Language support & practicing GR linguistic skills (support: Project Mentor).
3rd week: The volunteer starts updating the EU blog  and building his/her own forum of discussions and topics of his interest; he/she attends an intensive seminar of how to build his/her own artistic project related to local culture. Language support and practice in GR linguistic skills (support: Project Mentor & Youth Workers).
4th to 8th week: The volunteer asssists & supports our activities creatively; he/she continues updating the EU blog  and develops his/her own forum of discussions & topics of his interest; he starts building upon his own art-project; he starts attending some seminars or lessons with our artists (our lab availability is related to the period that the volunteer will visit us); GR linguistic practice; visit a nearby city; visit local monuments; visit and assist local art houses or newspaper, according to preference (support: Project & Social Mentor, Youth Workers).
9th week: Presentation of his/her project and participation to a main/ annual activity through technical support; Self-evaluation of learning process and evaluation of the whole experience and of ourservices; complaints & acknowledgments; Youthpass structure. Party of separation & life long promises for future reunion.
