We are a Polish Foundation for adults with Autism and other developmental disorders. We work in area of education, rehabilitation, social care and therapy of people. We also try to broaden the society’s knowledge on Autism Spectrum and other developmental disorders. The Foundation is a basis for the Occupational Therapy Workshops (OTW) that are lead in different workshops: applied art, everyday life, informatics, miscellaneous, printing and graphics, social communication, and social independence workshop. Therapy within the therapeutic groups is designed to train occupational and social skills of our participants in the most practical manner.
Tasks
Occupational Therapy Workshops consist of seven Workshops: applied art, everyday life, informatics, miscellaneous, printing and graphics, social communication, and social independence workshop. In each Workshop, the volunteer will be able to broaden their knowledge on Autism Spectrum and other developmental disorders and also to work on their skills regarding therapy of people with such cases.
Each volunteer will be able to work directly with a therapist in Occupational Therapy Workshops, helping them in order to perform a safer therapy. By aiding therapists in their day-to-day work, the volunteer will have an opportunity to learn how the therapist’s work looks and become acquainted with various challenges, obstacles, and risks that the therapist faces daily. This experience may help the volunteer to fully comprehend the challenges and gratifications that come with a role of a therapist.
Within the Foundation one may take advantage of opportunities and acquire a number of useful competencies not necessarily connected to leading therapy. In our Printing studio the volunteer will be able to practice their skills in the field of editing and graphics, and also to gain knowledge on the graphics program. The volunteer will help in editing and printing of Foundation’s booklets, brochures, pamphlets, and others.
Criteria
We welcome anyone who would like to get acquainted with the Foundation’s ideas or simply to help. However, we expect from our team an open mind, understanding, and tolerance for those who differ from the most. It is often necessary for them to be flexible, tolerant, and understanding. Anyone who would like to gain experience and knowledge in therapy for persons with Autism Spectrum and other developmental disorders should present a certain level of empathy to be able to lead this type of lifestyle.
Selection process
For the selection of the volunteers we will need:
– Europass CV with picture (made in the last month)
– Motivational letter, writing that your sending organisation will be “Building Bridges”. We ask all candidates to send a specific letter of motivation – why they want to volunteer with us rather than just a general EVS one.
Remember to write in the motivation letter that your sending institution is “Asociación Building Bridges”.
All documents written in english you can send to: asociacionbb@gmail.com with subject “EVS Gdynia Autism”.
