We would like to inform you about different possibilities to do a long term voluntary service in Germany.
We have three different programmes we can offer to people who want to volunteer in Germany
1. Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr (Voluntary social year) FSJ
2. Bundesfreiwilligendienst (Voluntary service of the German federation) BFD
3. Bundesfreiwilligendienst with extra funding
4. European Voluntary service EVS
5. Weltwärts return (only for special organisations – therefore explanation to this program you will find on an extra sheet)
Voluntary service has a very long history in Germany. The Government invented the first program (FSJ) 50 years ago as a mean to enforce civic involvement and to strengthen democracy. In the past 50 year volunteering became an inherent part of the German welfare system. All programs has as a common rule that volunteering should not substitute normal workplaces, but on the other hand volunteers help to ensure that social services in Germany has even in times of financial crises quite a good quality.
All of these possibilities are combining the involvement for the society and the support of minorities with in informal learning opportunity for the individual volunteer.

EVS in Germany
The EVS is a transnational programme funded by the European Commission. Organisations who want to take part in this program have to be accredited by the National agencies. Ijgd – Bonn is working as a coordinating hosting organisation since the pilot phase 1996. Most of the projects, which we can offer are in the field of disadvantaged youth.
Expectation towards the volunteers
The applicants should be between 18 and 30 years old.
The applicants should have good knowledge of german
The applicants should be motivated to work with children and youth
The applicants should be motivated to integrate in Germany
Conditions of EVS
The volunteers are working 35 hours a week. The work can be in shifts and sometimes it will be also on weekends
The volunteers receive pocket money of 110,00 Euro, money for food (229,00 Euro) and accommodation
The volunteers are entitled to 26 days of holiday.
The volunteers receive a Youth pass at the end
There are funds for international travel, financial support for sending organisations
The volunteers will have the pedagogical support by 15 days seminars organised by the national agency and by 11 days organised by ijgd Bonn
The duration is10 12 month, it is not possible to prolong it
Application process for EVS
The deadline for applications is 10th of December. A complete application should include following:

Motivation letter
In the middle of December the applicants we’ll make an interview via skype. After this interview the decision is taken, if the volunteer will be proposed to a project and to which project we will propose him/her.
We expect the decision of the project in the beginning of January. After that the applicant should take the final decision. Please be aware of the fact that we expect this decision to be wellt houghtout. If the volunteer has doubts it is not a big problem, if he/she will withdraw her/his participation at this moment.
After we get the confirmation of the volunteer (directly by him/her or by you) we will begin with the application procedure for the February deadline and the visa procedure and we will send you the invitation letter. Please insure that the volunteer will take the necessary steps and keep us informed in case of problems
Project start will be the 1st of September.
Building Bridges Association members will have preference, please enroll to the association here.
We will study carefully all application and selected candidates will be invite for Skype interview. The selection of volunteers will take place in the coming weeks.
For the selection of the volunteers we will need:
– Europass CV with picture (made in the last month)
– Motivational letter, writing that your sending organisation will be “Building Bridges”. We ask all candidates to send a specific letter of motivation – why they want to volunteer with us rather than just a general EVS one.

Remember to write in the motivation letter that your sending institution is “Asociación Building Bridges”.
