Salomon’s Mines – Polishing the Diamonds…

This is another edition of the project «King Solomon’s Mines …» The project is for 3 volunteers who work in the Salomon Christian Elementry School with kids 6-13 years old. The volunteers help teachers with extracurricular activities, they organize the free time that kids have after school, help with homework etc. They work 5 days a week and once a month there is some kind of event organized by the volunteers for the families and local communities.

Kopalnie  is a project of the group European Voluntary Service which will be realized in the Christian Primary School in Zielona Góra. The main objective of the project is to develop pupils and volunteers in different areas during the extracurricular classes. Three volunteers supervised by a teacher will help during classes for children, increasing their skills in such areas as general knowledge, foreign languages, arts (art, music, theatre, technical classes) and sports. Volunteers’ work will take place at school on working days for 7 months. Volunteers who are at school will in the first place work with teachers working in common rooms. A volunteer will help the teacher – they will work together and in time volunteers will be able to conduct some activities on their own (games with kids, creating arts works, sports, teaching songs in a foreign language etc…..

accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will get money for food / 14 PLN per day/ and prepare themselves their food.
(with the exception of:
1. On-arrival training and mid-term evaluation, when the volunteer is provided with food by the National Agency,
2. Camps, when the volunteer is provided with food by hotel ) A volunteer can buy lunch at the school canteen.

Accommodation:

Volunteers will be lodged in rented flat in town centre.

 

The practical arrangements (working hours, days off per week, holidays):

Working hours at school:
10 am – 12:30 am time for preparation
12:30 am – 1 pm lunch at school cafeteria
1 pm – 5 pm after-school classes and workshops
Discussing plan for conducting workshops for the duration of action with the teacher .
Assistance in classes and observing working methods.
Planning activities, preparation of work plan for the period,
Preparation of materials for the workshops.
Preparation of games activating children.
Conducting workshops on their own.
Preparation of the theater group / vocal performance for the school events.
Help in preparaion of the festival for the local community
Conducting of prepared activities at the picnic / games, sports, performances, etc. /.
Preparing and conducting workshops for children at a camp.
Assistance in administrative work and housekeeping within the school
Participation in class trips and help with organizing trips

Exemplary schedule of a day
This is 35-40 hours including training volunteers in teaching languages and team meeting. In case, when a volunteer is engaged in special events, special day– she will get extra day off.
Vacation:
20 days off work – 2 days each month. Days that hasn't been tapped go along to the next month. Volunteer, planning her vacation, informs the host organisation with two weeks notice (14 days).

NOTICE:
In case of missing a day of class without a good reason – the organization considers this day as a day of leave.
Pocket money:
Paid on delivery at the end of each week/month. (an equivalent of 85E per month at the exchange rate defined by the National Agency as of the day of advance payment transfer)

Trainings for the volunteer:
1. Pre-Departure Training, organized by SENDING ORGANISATION:
2. On-Arrival Training, organized by – NA of program Erasmus + Youth
3. Mid-term training organized by – NA of program Erasmus + Youth
4. Final Evaluation, organized by SENDING ORGANISATION:

The volunteers will be familiarized with the place of residence, they will be given advice which places to avoid, familiarized with the possible cultural differences, the place of activities and the basic principles of safety in the workplace. They will be familiarized with the youth groups with which they will be able to spend their free time.
The school is a place where the educators ensure safety. The volunteers will be able to use the tools available in the school, ( e.g. have the computers for private use, they will be guaranteed access to the Internet to allow constant contact with their friends and relations).
In case of illness a volunteer will receive help in the selection and seeing the doctor. The volunteer will receive the emergency phone numbers. Besides, they will get support at work, they will still be in touch with the coordinator of activities.
The volunteers will work with the coordinator of activities and mentor. The cooperation will take place at the level of good relations, constant communication and expressing mutual expectations.
The volunteer will also be in touch with the mentor, who will do their best to make the stay productive, interesting and possibly trouble-free.

A volunteer should:
– be open to cooperation and willing to act
– agree to participate in activities throughout the duration of the contract and the training prepared for volunteers
– have sufficient motivation to work with children aged 6-13

How to apply

We will study carefully all application and selected candidates will be invite for Skype interview. The selection of volunteers will take place in the coming weeks.

For the selection of the volunteers we will need:

CV with picture (made in the last month) with skype name included

Motivational letter, writing that your sending organisation will be “Building Bridges”. We ask all candidates to send a specific letter of motivation – why they want to volunteer with us rather than just a general EVS one. The volunteer is chosen according to his/her motivation and interest to the project and to the activities. It will be paid special attention to cover letters.
