Sobre los la organización de los intercambios en Francia

is an association and a movement of informal education which places in its core values of solidarity, voluntary commitment and a strong political will. Our choices and our actions are influenced by our vision of the society, in which the progress is social, where the respect of human being and the environment is a fundamental and shared value, where freedom to choose, to dream and to resist is innate or fostered.

Our activities are organised for all, no matter what gender, nationality or social and cultural background. It has, since its creation, participates concretely in Peace construction, promoting intercultural meeting here in France and abroad. SJ works through participative pedagogy which encourages to take the initiative, to recognize the commitment of everybody and gathers forces and intelligences from all, volunteers, employees, etc.

It is composed by one National Secretary based in Paris, seven Regional Delegations and one partner association. Our delegations host temporarily or all year long volunteers, from France and from all around the world. Furthermore, those delegations and partners monitor and host also youngsters with fewer opportunities, as part of inclusion and solidarity actions.

All delegations and partners are situated in singular and original sites (castle, former camp-site, isolated villages in the heart of mountains, former factory, etc.). Those places have been all renovated with the aid of volunteers and the people involved on those projects. People live, meet and enjoy
together there.

Did you know? The first workcamps were organized after the First World War, in Verdun region, in France. Several citizens-volunteers, from former opposed countries, decided to join their forces and wills in order to work together on Peace construction in the interest of the communities.

Languedoc Roussillon Regional Delegation like a dream in French (rêve!). Founded in 1974, the association became a delegation of Solidarités Jeunesses in 1979. Hosting youngsters with fewer opportunities was since the beginning in the core of the structure. REV wants to give back this central place to this public.

The implication of the association within local projects of inclusion and education bring forward the exchanges between local and international volunteers/participants. For several years, it is settled in a old and stylish house, in Beauvoisin village.

This building allows to host more than 10 volunteers from abroad and also temporary groups which come to participate to its life and activities. An office and a flat allow the employees of the assocation to live there.

If some of the workcamps are organised in the house itself like some renovation camps, there is no full year camp in it. Indeed, the association organises workcamps around Beauvoisin, in different places to work on local and regional heritage. It is often the case that volunteers go to other villages to work and discover other places, in partnership with locals and inhabitants. During summer time, life in it gets more intense due to the rhythm of international workcamps (that go on for some weeks or even some months). Those workcamps foster a lot the territorial impacts of the association in summertime, in cooperation with some local authorities and associations.

Volunteering is an exchange, a meeting between a person who wishes to offer his/her time, energy and views to a project of general interest. It is also an intercultural ground of learning (apprenticeship), experimentation and personal construction. At us, volunteering does not mean humanitarian action
because we do not deal with emergency. Voluntary service exists almost everywhere around the world and is a commitment which can be really different depending on countries, cultures, fields, etc.

It gathers different types of persons and entities, local associations, men, women, local authorities and private entities. Volunteering is above all a personal commitment that invites you to a discovery.

The workcamp gathers generally 8 to 15 volunteers from different countries and backgrounds, who participate, together, in the realization of a useful project for the local community.

It can last from one to three weeks. Those workcamps are based on collective life and collective work.

The aim is to bring rural and urban areas together, to mix locals with “strangers” and to permit their meetings. Workcamp projects are here to facilitate group dynamism and discovery. Languages are mainly English and French. Volunteers organize themselves their daily life (budget, schedule, work and
also cleaning). Bring with you recipes, music and everything that could show to the others your country and what you like.

Sobre el proyecto

For the fifth year in a row, a group of volunteers will be hosted by the Sociocultural Center in Vergèze.

This center is very active and offers a lot of activities for the local population. It is now several years than the two organizations work together to create Youth Exchange.

As this year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of the WW1, we wanted to propose an exchange based on the ideas of « War, Peace, and youth ». What is war, and what is peace ? And more importantly, « what can young people do to create and protect peace » ?
In order to address those question, participants will engage in several workshop and exchanges to create a critical thinking on this.
And in order to create dynamic and relevant feedback on those exchange and workshop, the participants will have the opportunity to create podcast and livefeed with a local radio, partner of the project.
This local Radio will train all the participants in the technical basic of podcast creation, and will provide with the necessary equipment. They also will be on the project twice a week to accompany the participants in producing a livefeed that will discuss the topics of the youth exchange.
In order to have rich and critical exchange, the partners will invite different people whose testimony are relevant with the topic (like veteran, refugees, and people who have significant engagement for peace).
The goals :
– To Develop a technical knowledge of pordcast creation and livefeed radio.
– To engage in a collective discussion in order to identify ways european youth can concretely create and protect peace.
– To enhance critical thinking of participants. To live a collective experience based on sharing and living-togetherness.
Your work produced during the week will be aired on local radio wave, and on online radio station.

Tareas

During this youth exchange, your time will be organized between exchanges among the participants, radio workshop, daily life management, and leisure time.
Usually, half a day is dedicated to workshop and exchange, while the other half is dedicated to leisure activities.
Given the specificity of this project and the fact that it involves a lot of different people, the schedule might evolve and change throghout the project.

Vida en grupo

The group will consist of 20 international volunteers of different nationalities (France, Armenia, Spain, Poland). Two facilitators will help to have a group dynamic that allow to organise every day life : manage the budget, the working hours, the exchange, leisure time.
You will also be in charge of cooking as household.
Remember to bring recipes from your country !
When it comes to the language spoken during the work camp, this depends very much on the group, but english and french are generally the two languages spoken during the camp most of the times.

Tiempo libre

It considers workcamp and youth exchange as an experimentation of collective lifestyle. That is why volunteers will organise their free time and leisures that could fit to group expectations, regarding budget, time and available leisures.

Those possibilities can be really diversified (regional tourism, local events, meeting inhabitants, green tourism, go to the beach etc.). It is the responsibility of all volunteers to organise their free time and to participate to the good dynamism of the group/workcamp.

You will organise the leisure time depending on local possibilities, your interests and means, and also maybe with the help of locals you will meet. It will be on your turn to invite local people and even tourists from the camping place to an international meal that is usually organised in the middle of the
workcamp.

One computer with internet connexion is available in the Social Center, the group will fix hours when to use it.
The area where the workcamp takes place, the « Camargue », is an area with strong local traditions and culture, mainly evolving around bulls farms. The group of participants will have plenty of opportunity to discover this area and its summer festivities.

Even if the workcamp takes place close to Paris or some other hotspots to visit, this is not a tourist journey ! If you wish to go to visit places, cities around and travel through France, you must do it before or after the workcamp. Feel free to take more days thus in France but not during your project. During it, you will stay with all the volunteers and inhabitants to enjoy local leisures and intercultral experience.

Alojamiento

You will be hosted in the rooms of the Sociocultural Center Marcel Pagnol in Vergèze. A room will be arranged as a dormitory with cots. Cooking facilities and bathrooms are in the same building.

Preparación

DON’T FORGET TO BRING WITH YOU…

• A White t-shirt you can write on
• Sleeping bag and pillow (we’ll provide matress)
• clothes against rain and cold, summer clothes
• music instruments, recipes, pictures, souvenirs from your country
• sun screen (!)
• mosquito repellent
• bathing suit
• student card if you have one
As the project is concerning radio, don’t forget your relevant equipment if you have some.
Moreover, in order to have a meaningful debate on the topic of peace, don’t hesitate to take some time to prepare a definition of « What is Peace »
• The volunteers can have the possibility to lock away their valuables, but we ask you not to bring along anything of value if you don’t think it is really necessary. Everyone is responsible of his/her own things !

Seguros intercambios en Francia

The hosting organization does not cover travel and health insurance. Each participant should have valid health insurance (for example European Health Card) and travel insurance during the whole participantion in the project. We reccommend www.seguroserasmus.com

Also, you should have during the exchange travel documents: identity card / passport.

Organisation takes an insurance regarding “Civil responsibility and Accident” during the workcamp but insurance regarding illnesses is at your charge during it. We invite you to contract a complementary insurance for it if you haven’t one. French participants must bring with them their Social Security number. For EU residents, you should ask for European social insurance card and bring it with you. At last, for non-EU residents, bring with you a document to confirm that you have a social security cover. Don’t forget to be updated regarding vaccination.

If you are under 18 years old, please don’t forget to send all necessary documents for your participation to the workcamp (parental authorization, health record, vaccination) to our office in Paris by scan and by post (originals). If you did not have enough time, please bring originals with you on
the project.

Costes cubiertos por las becas para los intercambios en Francia

– Travel costs (170€ return ticket) will be covered based on the unit costs of the program. Please note that participants will be reimbursed the real costs of their transport fees up to a certain limit as per information below.
– 100% lodging and food are covered
Hosting organisation  would like to encourage participants to buy travel tickets ASAP to enjoy economical prices. Please do not buy travel tickets until your participation has been approved by us. All the travel costs will be reimbursed the earliest 3 months after the end of the training course/youth exchange.
Please note that the process of reimbursement will be carried out directly with the applicant organizations and not with the individual participants (we only reimburse individually participants coming from informal groups). Organizations will have to communicate to us a global invoice after the project (up to the maximum amount given for the travel costs).

About transportation : as the project has been funded by Erasmus +, transportation will be reimbursed up to the amount granted by Erasmus+ (get in touch with your local sending organization for the exact amount reimbursed).
In order to get the refund, we will need the originals transportation documents. So please note that the refund will happen only after the project and once all the originals documents has been sent to our organization.

Cómo llegar

The airports with the best connections are those in Marseille, Lyon, Paris, Montpellier and Nîmes (from Brussels or London). There are bus connections between the airports and train stations.

You can check the schedules or make a reservation for a train on this web site : www.oui.sncf.
You have to get off the train at the stop VERGEZE-CODOGNAN.
You can access this train station from local hub, such as Nîmes or Montpellier Check again the times just before you leave. Sometimes, the schedules for the trains can change !
There is no direct connection to Vergèze by Bus, but you can reach Nîmes and/or Montpellier, then go to VERGEZE-CODOGNAN train station.
