Project

This project is prepared for volunteers, who want to come for EVS to Poland, to Cracow. They will work for 9 months in the kindergarten or a Youth Club, with the rest of Polish staff. 5 days a week, from 8:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. During volunteers’ stay they are supposed both to help full-time teachers and also to create their own projects. They will have a wide range of activities to chose from: art, dance, painting, national heritage, Polish history, architecture and so on. Of course if the volunteers will be creative, they can invent their own fields of activity, prepare them and then present in the kindergarten. We hope that the volunteers will bring a bit of their culture to casual working day, if there will be a possibility they will present for example some national songs, dances, traditions to our children. We also want the volunteers to gain experience, both on the field of children education, and also in the issue of Polish culture, European integration and EVS programme.

Tasks and activities

We want to host volunteers mostly because we would like to widen our and children’s horizons in the issue of European awareness. By playing with foreign volunteer we would like children to get to know not only with their community and environment but also with foreign cultures.

The volunteers will be able to know Polish culture, to learn or to improve Polish language, to make new friendships. Because we are very active, we hope that by working with us the volunteer will be able to became more creative, will develop new skills in many different fields and maybe will discover new abilities. We know that in work with children creativity and being open minded is very important so we will be helping the volunteer to feel comfortable to come up with new ideas.

This will be a possibility to develop volunteers personal engagement, and when he/she will return the his/her country it will be possible to continue or create new projects based on gained experience. We think that our city is very good to know the culture, because we have a lot of historical places, and signs of national heritage. We want the volunteer to be well-motivated and willing to help us in our everyday work.

The volunteers main task will be to assist and run various activities with the groups of children. This work will be complementary to the teacher’s work and with the necessary support by the teachers. Particularly it will depend on our plans for the day, e.x. preparing children for some games, or taking part in individual activities, helping to transport children to the city/museums/schools, preparing them for those trips (which we organize very often in our nursery school).

We are also open for volunteers ideas. The volunteer e.g. can have her/his own block of activities, prepared personally by him/her and each week he/she would present his/her work, culture or country. The volunteer can present any subject he/she wants, but it would be nice to put in it some regional culture of the volunteer. The volunteer can organize movement games connected with his/her national folklore dances, typical traditional games e.t.c.
